- Research and Criteria Definition: We begin by researching law firms that align with the partner’s criteria, including practice areas, firm culture, geographic location, and growth opportunities.
- Initial Consultation and Information Gathering: We advise prospective lateral partners to start compiling relevant information related to their move, such as practice composition, client base, and estimated portable business.
- Confidential Inquiry: We approach Managing Partners and Practice Leaders at selected firms to gauge their interest level. We ensure confidentiality by not disclosing the prospective lateral’s name or current firm.
- Confirmation of Interest: Upon confirming mutual interest, we inform the prospective lateral partner and gain agreement to submit their credentials, practice details, summary of top clients, and estimated portable business.
- Initial Meeting and Preparation: Assuming mutual interest persists, we schedule the first meeting between the law firm and prospective lateral partner, preparing both sides extensively for a productive discussion.
- Debriefing and Exploratory Meetings: We facilitate debrief sessions after each meeting to ensure alignment and continue with exploratory meetings if both parties remain interested.
- Law Practice Questionnaire (LPQ) Process: The law firm’s LPQ is submitted to the prospective lateral partner for detailed insights into their practice, business development history and portable business projections, existing team members following or additional support required, compensation, business development and other related expenses, client conflicts, and due diligence on the lateral partner by the prospective new firm.
- Final Meetings and Compensation Discussions: Final meetings are conducted to finalize details, including compensation discussions and formalizing the offer.
- Acceptance and Transition: Upon acceptance of the offer, we assist the partner in preparing for their resignation meeting from their current firm and facilitate a smooth transition into the new firm.
- Integration and Long-term Support: We follow up to ensure successful integration into the new firm, providing ongoing support to foster a productive and long-term fit.
