Why 293 markets? A Combined Statistical Area contains the Metropolitan Statistical Areas within it, so counting both would count the same counties twice. This ranking treats each CSA as one market and includes an MSA on its own only where no CSA contains it. Counties are searchable separately, and every county is shown with the market it belongs to. How to read the figures
Top-3 Deposit Share
The combined share of total market deposits held by the three largest institutions. A lower figure means deposits are less concentrated and more fragmented across institutions; a higher figure means a few institutions dominate.
Deposits
Total deposits booked by FDIC-insured branches in the market, in billions. This reflects where deposits are booked, which is not necessarily where customers or lending activity are located.
GDP per Capita
2024 GDP divided by 2025 population, so it is best read as an approximate comparative ratio rather than a precise figure.

Market boundaries and the county-to-market map follow the Census July 2023 CBSA/CSA delineation. Deposits, institution counts, and concentration are from the FDIC Summary of Deposits, June 30, 2025, with the six-year trend and institution detail built from branch-level records for 2020 through 2025. County GDP is BEA's allocation across county equivalents; share of market is that county's percent of the market's total. GDP per capita pairs 2024 GDP with 2025 population, so it is best read as an approximate comparative ratio. Deposit figures reflect the branch where a deposit is booked, which may differ from where the customer lives or where lending occurs. The fragmented, moderate, and concentrated bands are descriptive categories created for this resource: they are not regulatory classifications, and top-three deposit share does not capture credit unions, nonbank lenders, loan production offices, or digital competitors.
